This poem kind of reminds me of the letters from the eastern front because it is giving a first person encounter of what is going on during the war. We are seeing how people seen the US coming into the war and saving lives as a blessing. The author of this poem is seeing an American troop as the Messiah or the savior. This kind of takes me back a bit because of how the author says they have never seen a black person and here they are being saved by one and seeing him a the messiah especially in a time where racism in the U.S. is very high.
